Main Market Square
Old Town
Kraków’s vast medieval square is the natural heart of the Old Town. Walk around all four sides to take in Sukiennice, the Town Hall Tower, St Mary’s Basilica and the surrounding historic façades.
From the Main Market Square and Wawel to Kazimierz and the view from Kościuszko Mound. Eight places for a memorable first visit.
Travel with it wherever you go!
Kraków is best explored in layers: the medieval centre, the royal hill, the streets of Kazimierz and the industrial history of Zabłocie all reveal different sides of the city. Historic sights sit close to everyday city life, so leave room for unplanned turns, café stops and a walk by the Vistula.
Our eight places combine the city’s best-known landmarks with locations that broaden the story. Think of them as a carefully edited starting point, not a checklist for a single day.
Pick what interests you. Each place includes a short description, location, source information and a map link.
01
Old Town
Kraków’s vast medieval square is the natural heart of the Old Town. Walk around all four sides to take in Sukiennice, the Town Hall Tower, St Mary’s Basilica and the surrounding historic façades.
02
Wawel Hill
The royal hill above the Vistula brings together the castle, cathedral and centuries of Polish history. Choose specific interiors in advance rather than assuming one ticket covers the whole complex.
03
Main Market Square
The two unequal towers are among Kraków’s most recognisable silhouettes. Inside, the celebrated Veit Stoss altarpiece is the main highlight.
04
Main Market Square
Standing at the centre of the square, Sukiennice recalls Kraków’s trading past. Walk through the arcade and consider a separate visit to the 19th-century Polish art gallery upstairs.
05
Planty, by St Florian’s Gate
This round brick fortification once protected the approach to medieval Kraków. It is a natural starting point for a walk down Floriańska Street towards the Main Market Square.
06
Kazimierz
The former separate town preserves layers of Jewish and Christian heritage. Explore the streets around Szeroka slowly and connect the architecture with the stories of the people who lived here.
07
Zabłocie, Lipowa 4
This branch of the Museum of Kraków presents the city under German occupation and goes far beyond Schindler’s biography. Allow enough time for the extensive exhibition.
08
St Bronisława Hill
The mound offers a broad view over Kraków from the western side of the city. Pick a clear day and check current admission details before travelling.
Build your day around places that sit naturally together and leave enough time for interiors, museums and unhurried breaks.
Start at the Barbican, continue to the Main Market Square and Sukiennice, then walk towards Wawel. Choose one interior for a longer visit.
Combine a walk through Kazimierz with a separate visit to Oskar Schindler’s Enamel Factory. Check timed-entry availability before you go.
Give Kościuszko Mound its own part of the day. Back in the centre, choose a relaxed walk through Planty or along the Vistula.
Choose a place to open it in Google Maps. Check the route from your starting point and confirm current opening or entry information before you go.
